I’m a professional nurse that ventured on a different side of nursing. I work stressful weeknights that is why weekends and vacations are vital to me. I have fixed holidays set throughout the year too (US holidays), so it is quite easy for me to plan my vacations ahead. I make it a point I explore a new site every couple of months.
I prefer traveling with friends, I think I do not need to elaborate how this is so much fun. I am lucky to have different set of friends who are passionate about traveling as much as I do. However, this could be quite challenging to put into reality for a bunch of reasons. Schedules, budgets and preferences. Most of the time, I cruise with at least one close buddy. But there were couple of instances I tried wandering alone. I found it totally liberating and empowering. Making it to one tourist spot to another by myself gave me a sense of accomplishment.
But I am not such a fan of all in travel packages. I find much satisfaction by making my own itineraries. This way, I get the freedom to choose the finest of the top tour spots in each town I plan to visit. My friends know me as one-destination-is-never-fun kind of gal. Before starting one, I ask them if they want the chill or the active itinerary. I research travel blogs, consumers reviews, hotel booking sites etc to structure my plan of activities. Mainstays in my sample itineraries would be white sand beaches, falls, mountains, unique nature spots and at least one active adventure. I could finish a vacay plan in a day to a week depending on the number of activities I will be including as well as the number of days we will be traveling.
Enough of the how’s. Let me share to you the why’s. I travel for various reasons. I travel for fun, for pleasure, for discoveries. Sometimes it could be because I am just bored. But the main reason why I chase my wanderlust is because, traveling resets my sanity. Yes you read it right, my sanity. With the fuzz of city life and numerous stressors we encounter everyday we get tired, sad, depressed and out of focus. Walking away for a while would always be a great idea. Think about breathing in fresh air, listening to rhythm of the birds chirping, indulging the serenity of lush greens and the clear ocean vs staying at home, browsing the senseless feed of your social media. I bet 9/10 people who will read this post will choose the former.

Life is short. Live it to the fullest. File for a day off, pack a bag, grab a friend and explore the world. 😊
